I am an award-winning teen changemaker and mental health advocate!

As a kid, I was bullied by my peers because I was overweight, wore glasses, and belonged to a lower socio-economic class. Sometimes, life at home was difficult too. I have struggled with my mental health since then, but I didn’t know I was living with undiagnosed generalized anxiety disorder. During my early teen years, I felt extremely lonely, hopeless, and disconnected. Life felt meaningless and without purpose.  At 15, everything got so bad to a point where I thought about ending my life. Fortunately, I couldn’t go through with it and decided to reach out to my mom. I saw firsthand how seeking help changed my life, so I wanted to be the help other teens can seek.

I’ve been involved in several initiatives to uphold this mission, which brought meaning, fulfillment, and hope to my life.

In March 2020, COVID-19 hit Turkey and I saw the negative impact that uncertainty and isolation had on youth mental health. According to research, during quarantine, nearly 50% of teens felt anxious or depressed but only 2 out of 5 asked for help. My findings motivated me to create One Smile Effect, an award-winning global mental health organization that has impacted over 2500 teens from 60 countries- and I’m just getting started.
